When I first came across Japanese String Gardening I thought it was amazingly artistic and whimsical but it never occurred to me I could create one for myself. However, recently I found a step by step tutorial for making your own hanging garden. The string gardens are a type of bonsai gardening known as Kokedama, meaning "moss-covered ball." Plants such as orchids, succulents, and carnivorous plants tolerate the conditions of a string garden better then the average plant, but that doesn't mean you cannot try others. I am seeing lily's, tomatoes, strawberries and even fig trees. It is a great solution to gardening in limited space. Hope these photos inspire you to make your own.
